Raspberry PI Hints and Tips

Here is a list of things I have learned while PI’ing my brains out.

How do I shutdown the PI?
Simple, its the same as on any Linux distro. Click shutdown or from the command line type ‘sudo shutdown -h now’. The PI wont power off, but it will save everything and put itself in to a state ready to be powered off.

My SD size is very small, what happened to my GB’s?

When the image tool wrote the distro to the card is partitioned it in a way that is visible to Linux only. Windows can’t handle or see the ext partition types on the SD card. I tried many programs and suggestions from people and the only one that worked for me was to put the SD card in to my Canon EOS 500D and do a low level format. This restored my SD card to a full 16GB.
